Sin... Do I Have To Do It?

What’s up everyone? Hey I just wanted to drop in and share something that I know is going to bless you. Our pastor challenged us to read the Bible in one year, cover to cover. And while starting my plan the Lord has already started teaching me knew things and giving me other ways to think. And I would like to share some of this with you…

This is the first part of the message called, “Sin… Do I have to do it”? Next week will be part 2. Enjoy!!!!

In today’s society a lot of folks think that we have to sin. Or that it is just something that is completely in our system like breathing or walking. And although sin is something we have to deal with because we are indeed human and live on this sinful dieing earth. But it is certainly not something we have to do or are pre-destined to do.

Even some Christians think this way, but it is wrong, because in 1 John 2:1 says, “My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense--Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.

See if the Bible teaches to sin or that it is something we will inevitably do then the writer here would not have said “I write this to you so that you will not sin.” He would have said, “ I write this because you are going to sin.”

See I believe once you are saved, sin is a choice… you can either do it or not do it. We must choose, now am I saying that we are to be perfect and not ever sin, or if we do then we are not really saved and right with God? No, of course not, all I’m saying is what the Bible says… that it is not to be our aim, if you go back and read 1 John 2:1 it says that he writes that we don’t sin but IF we do sin we have Jesus.

I think a lot of people have it the other way around… I know some people (based on conversations) that think of it this way, “ I’ll live life and WHEN I sin, I’ll ask forgiveness, but that is totally opposite of what the Bible teaches.

It teaches as I have plainly shown that we are to live life in Christ and IF we sin ask for forgiveness not WHEN, WHEN indicates an event that is planned on happening… IF is something that you have no plans on doing or practicing.

The Bible says also in 1 Peter 1:15, “But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

Do you see what I mean, I’m trying to paint the picture that once you become a Christian sin has no more dominion over you, no control and no say in your life! Since Jesus defeated sin on that cross, those in him have also over come.

Next week I will finish up by sharing what and how the Bible says to over come the temptation to sin and win every time!
